Paris, je t'aime!
I walked by this Macy's window on my way home from work. I had to take a picture of these huge metal and fabric chandeliers and these small Eiffel Towers. I'm obsessed with them. I have several Paris inspired items in my apartment. Paris, je t'aime!

My Favorite Thing to Wear!
I know I am late. I know everyone is talking about and wearing them, but I'm a picky shopper and hadn't found the right maxi till now. They are so comfy and can be worn dressed up or down. I love them so much that I am determined to learn to sew so I can create my own. Along with embracing color, I will embrace pattern. The two with pink hearts are my favorites and my inspiration for my personal maxi collection. I want a closet full of them!

See the Conflict and Then Embrace the Change
I just finished a Google Hangout with some ladies about healing out bodies and it made me think more about myself, who I am as a person, and who I want to be. I don't want to appear militant or a rebel, but there is this person inside of my trying to get out. The person who wants to share who she is with the world and be accepted for it. I say that I don't want to be a rebel because what I feel on the inside is not the norm. What I want to do and share is not what the majority of the people around me do.
I think this might be a common struggle amongst African Americans. Do we really know who we are or do we only know what we see around us everyday? No wonder so many of us feel depressed. We are constantly suppressing who we truly are. I want to embrace colors, my natural hair, patterns, and jewelry. Wear a head wrap and not looked at sideways. Sway and jive my hips while sitting at my desk at work (which I do). Since moving hundreds of miles away from my family I have embraced that person inside of me a little more, but there is so much more of her that wants to come out. Sometimes I don't know who she is. What is it that she wants to say and do? A change is coming.

Random Late Night Thoughts
How dedicated are you to you? I am a member of a local chapter of Black Girls Run. I joined when I first moved here and attended their first run. The first year I attended most of the meet ups and met some nice ladies. After experiencing my first Midwest winter and being totally unprepared I stopped going for walks. It has been at least a year since the last time I met with the group. With some guidance I made a goal to buy new shoes (my old ones had holes) and at least think about walking. Well the group was meeting at one of my favorite parks. I laced up my new shoes and took a quick bus ride there. I don't have a car so I took the bus. I snapped a few photos of the lovely views I experienced on my walk and posted them to Instagram. My sister commented and said with views like that she'd go walking everyday. I thought to myself why not go everyday? I have a bus card that I hardly use. I have shoes. The sun doesn't set till after 9 pm. Why not? I'll do it! Can I do it? What about traffic and Mosquitos. I don't have enough sport bras (or a decent one) to do that everyday. I talk myself out of it.
From past experiences I know that if I just try it will answer all of my concerns. I might even realize that I was worried about nothing or there is an alternative. The point though is to be dedicated to myself. Do what is needed to reach my goals. Take risk (legal ones). I already know what sitting on my butt will get me. A BIGGER BUTT! We don't want that. It just takes one step to get to the next step. After awhile you'll notice that you've met your goal. Just concentrate on one step. Someone taught me that recently.
Step one: Buy walking shoes - done
Step two: Buy proper sport bras
